The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kathy Hilton remained close friends with Michael Jackson from high school til the day he died.
Kathy Hilton may have a lot of enemies from her time on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but Michael Jackson was one friend she could always count on. Kathy’s relationship with the King of Pop has been on everyone’s mind lately after former RHOBH star Teddi Mellencamp claimed that Michael was connected to Kathy’s meltdown in Aspen. The drama that occurred at an Aspen club during filming for RHOBH season 12 leaked months before the season aired and was somehow not captured by cameras. Even after the episode capturing the aftermath premiered, no one has a straight answer about what set Kathy off.
Kathy’s costar Sutton Stracke claimed that the star wanted to start a conga line at the club in Aspen, but none of her costars wanted to join, and it angered her. Fans began calling the incident Congagate, and Andy Cohen even did a conga line tribute for Kathy on his late-night show Watch What Happens Live. However, Teddi claims this couldn’t be farther from the truth. According to the star, Kathy wanted the DJ to play Michael’s 1982 hit “Billie Jean,” and the DJ said no. A few outlets claimed months ago that this was the cause of Kathy’s meltdown, and it seems it’s now confirmed since Teddi’s confession.

Kathy’s connection to the singer goes far deeper than her being a fan of his song, as the two were friends for years until his death. The RHOBH star met Michael when she was 13, and he was 14. The two attended the California private school Montclair College Preparatory School, which has a long list of notable alumni, including Paris Hilton’s best friend, Nicole Richie. Kathy has admitted that when they were young, she and Michael would get into some mischief as they’d prank call people together. As years went on, their friendship only strengthened. Even when Kathy left California for New York City, she and Michael remained close, and he would often visit her in the city that never sleeps. They even made a pact about naming their future children. In a 2012 interview, Michael’s older sister Latoya Jackson revealed that it’s no coincidence that Kathy and Michael both named their daughters Paris.
Kathy Hilton And Michael Jackson’s Families Were Very Close
Latoya said that when they were younger, the three of them agreed to name their first daughter Paris. While Latoya doesn’t have kids, she has named her dogs Paris throughout the years. Kathy and Michael also remained very close with each other’s families. Michael even invited Kathy and her daughters Paris and Nicky Hilton to the set of his “Thriller” music video in 1983, and Paris says she still has photos to prove it. Before Michael’s death in 2009, he lived one floor below Kathy’s family in the Bel Air hotel, and the RHOBH star says he was an excellent father. When Michael passed away, Kathy was one of the first people to know, and she visited the hospital to see his body and say her goodbyes. Even after his death, the families remain close. In 2020, when Kathy’s daughter came out about the abuse she faced at boarding school, Paris Jackson showed support for her friend on social media.

Clearly, Kathy and Michael had an irreplaceable bond throughout the years. Maybe this is why she was so upset the DJ wouldn’t play “Billie Jean.” It’s been over a decade since Michael’s death, but the RHOBH star still holds him close in her heart. No matter how much time passes, the King of Pop will always be the most special friend Kathy has ever had.
