Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti had some iconic revelations on their Laguna Beach rewatch podcast, Back to the Beach with Kristin and Stephen.
Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti finished recapping Laguna Beach season 1 on their rewatch podcast and made many memorable confessions. The show covered all 11 episodes of the MTV reality show’s first season and several bonus episodes, which sometimes featured special guests. Trey Phillips, Christina Sinclair, and finally, Lauren Conrad all appeared on Back to the Beach with Kristin and Stephen. Fans praised the series and preferred it over The Hills podcast. While Kristin and Stephen are not dating, their chemistry as friends is stronger than ever.
The two are taking a break after finishing Laguna Beach season 1, but they’ll be back to recap season 2 soon. During the show’s second season, Lauren, Stephen, and their classmates are in college, and Kristin’s friends are the new seniors. As the narrator, fans get an in-depth look at Kristin’s life. However, most people remember Laguna Beach from its season one storyline, where Kristin and Lauren fight over Stephen. While the reality stars have told fans many times that the show wasn’t as real as it seemed, the podcast dived deeper into the truth about Laguna Beach.

Kristin & Stephen’s Relationship Was Very Real
Sure, some drama was fabricated, and scenes were edited to make it look like they were flirting with other people while still dating, but their relationship was very authentic. The couple sitting on the beach before Stephen left for college, telling each other how much they’ll miss one another, was one of the most real moments of the series. Even if it existed just a few episodes after their fight in Cabo.
Laguna Beach Scenes Were Aired Out Of Order
If Kristin was flirting with a guy at a bar one episode after she and Stephen were cuddling on the beach, this wasn’t because she was cheating on him. Kristin and Stephen revealed that the show would take scenes and edit them out of order to create storylines. In times when she and Stephen were with other people, they were broken up, but the show didn’t make this clear to the audience.
Laguna Beach Was Supposed To Film At School
If MTV had their way, fans would have seen inside Laguna Beach High School. Unfortunately, the original plan was scrapped after the Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake incident at the 2004 Super Bowl. MTV was involved with the performance, so the school didn’t want to be associated with the network anymore. Instead, Laguna Beach filmed on the weekends, which is why many scenes were set up to have stars talking about the drama that occurred during the week. So much went on that they didn’t catch on camera, and they wanted to fill viewers in so they wouldn’t be confused.
The Stars Were Not As Rich & Spoiled As They Seemed
Many remember watching the show and wishing they could live in the wealthy Laguna Beach neighborhood, driving BMWs to school. However, this wasn’t Kristin and Stephen’s reality. The stars admitted that their parents didn’t buy them everything they wanted like some of their classmates. Stephen revealed that he even had to pay his own college tuition. He and Lauren worked at Laguna Surf & Sport, and during the podcast’s finale episode, Lauren revealed she bought all her own clothes with the money she earned at the store.

Lauren and Kristin Didn’t Have A Feud Before The Show
One of the biggest revealed secrets came from the podcast’s season 1 finale episode. Lauren and Kristin revealed that the feud that built the show didn’t actually exist before MTV came along. Kristin was actually dating Stephen, and he and Lauren had hooked up in the past. Kristin wasn’t fond of this, and she and Lauren had an argument at a dance but immediately made up and put the drama behind them. However, MTV found out about this and utilized it for the show. When discussing the feud, Kristin said, “I felt like MTV coming kept it alive and made it way worse than it ever would have been.”

Laguna Beach wasn’t everything fans thought it was when it premiered in 2004, but the podcast made them love the series more. People know now that no reality show is as real as it seems, but in the early 2000s, it was easier to trick people. Fans loved Back to the Beach this season, and they can’t wait to see what Kristin and Stephen have in store for their Laguna Beach season 2 recaps.
